Teleprompter / autocue history

Both of the terms mentioned in the headline, "teleprompter" and "autocue", are originally names of companies manufacturing these devices. As far as I know, both of these companies still exist. TelePrompTer started in USA around year 1955. In first years they were offering "mechanichal teleprompter" -services, mainly for soap-operas. Autocue LTD started around the same time, but in England. During the years, names of these companies have turned in to a part of general terminology.

Word "teleprompter" or it's short form "prompter" or "prompteur" is used in countries like USA, France, Germany and many others.

Word "autocue" is used as a general term in countries like U.K., Ireland, Australia etc., but as said, it is originally a name of the English company, Autocue LTD.
